ACCELERATED READER PROGRAM AT SEA
The Accelerated Reader (AR) Program is designed to encourage students to read and improve their reading comprehension.
This year at SEA we are providing the AR program to enrich our reading curriculum for first, second and third grade students.
Accelerated Reader’s three easy steps help continuously guide students to appropriate books on their reading level. The reading level is determined by the STAR reading test, a short 25 question test to determine a student’s level of reading. The reading level ranges from 1.0-6.0 and above. This reading level directs students to books that are appropriate for them. At the same time, it helps individualize reading instruction and intervene with students who need extra help.
Student Reads a Book: Books may be obtained from our school library or the public library, textbook selection (Harcourt Reading Textbook) or a book from home.
Student Takes a Quiz: AR offers more than 100,000 quizzes on library books and popular reading textbook series. The quizzes provide assessment information to help motivate reading, monitor progress, and target instruction to accelerate reading growth.
Information: AR provides easy-to-read reports for the Reading Teacher to utilize in their assessment of the students’ comprehension skills so as to guide instruction and help the student/teacher select more reading materials.

Renaissance Learning has a quiz store http://www.renlearn.com/store/ where you can search for AR books. To check any book you have to see if it is an AR book just click on the link above. Type in the title (must be exact) or type in the Author’s name and click on the search button. If it is a match, the book title will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. If you click on the book title it will show the Quiz Number and Reading Level.
