RAVE READING CONTEST 2009-2010
Dear Parents,
The Seventh Annual Rave Reading Contest is underway! How much can your child read from October 1st through March 4th?
Below are the Reading Goals for each grade. Click on the grade level for the appropriate form. Please submit the forms to Mr. Straube or Mrs. Titorenko as soon as your child completes them.
Grades Pre-K and K: Read, or be read to, 40 books and make a list of their titles.
Grade 1: 500 total pages and write a brief sentence or two telling what the book was about.
Grade 2: 1000 total pages. Write two or three sentences about the book.
Grade 3: 1500 pages and write two or three sentences about the book.
Grade 4: 2000 pages. Students will write several sentences about the book and a separate paragraph about a theme, setting, or character they found to be interesting.
Grade 5: 2500 pages. Students will write several sentences about the book and a separate paragraph about a theme, setting, or character they found to be interesting.
One large star for each student who participates in the contest will be placed on the wall of the LMC (Library Media Center). Running totals will be noted for all grades.
Guidelines:
Qualifying reading must be between October 1st and March 4th. Reading done prior to October 1st will not count toward the Rave Reading goal.
Students must submit their written pages within 30 days when reading is completed.
All reading activities in class including book reports, Accelerated Reader, research, or other reading assignments will count towards the reading goal. Remember, the contest begins October 1st and ends March 4th. Please encourage your student to participate and have fun reading!
Paperwork to track your child’s reading is included in this web citation. If you are unable to print out the forms for your child, please contact Mr. Straube or Mrs. Titorenko in the Library.
Good luck, and get involved!
