Julie Shatley is the music teacher at Sweetwater Episcopal Academy. In addition to teaching general music classes, she directs two Vocal ensembles that regularly perform throughout the Central Florida area.

Miss Shatley completed her undergraduate degree in music at Rollins College. During her undergraduate studies at Rollins, she had the opportunity to perform with the Rollins flute choir, orchestra, and wind ensemble. She also studied conducting with Dr. John Sinclair, receiving the opportunity to conduct at Rollins’ annual Christmas Vespers. Miss Shatley also had the opportunity to direct the music programs at local churches, as well as intern with The Orlando Chorale.

Miss Shatley’s teaching experiences include working with several high school and college choral ensembles throughout Florida, as well as musical directing choral ensembles and musical theater productions in New York. She has been teaching piano and voice privately for the last four years.

“I am so blessed to work with the amazing students and staff that comprise the SEA community. I love coming to work every morning and watching students understand and discover music. It’s so exciting to see their faces when they ‘get’ a new concept or hear themselves perform.”

“A moment I will always remember occurred during last year’s fifth grade graduation rehearsal. All of the students were surrounding the piano, singing through their song. Some were resting their heads on the piano, some were staring blankly, some were standing up straight - but the look of content and sounds of innocence that they produced when they sang was one of the most beautiful sounds I have ever heard. If it’s possible to have a ‘Kodak moment’ in a music class, that would have been it.”

Miss Shatley is affiliated with many professional organizations, including the Music Educator’s National Conference, Florida Music Educator’s Association, Florida Elementary Music Educator’s Association, and the American Chorale Director’s Association. In addition to teaching at SEA, Miss Shatley is currently the musical director at The Anglican Cathedral of the Incarnation.
