Matt Masem
Matt Masem is a fourth grade homeroom teacher and teaches all Science for fourth and fifth grade. He began his time at SEA in 1996. For four years he volunteered, worked as an aide, and substituted while attending Rollins College, majoring in Mathematics and Elementary Education. He returned to SEA in 2005 as a Science teacher, a position he has held ever since. This is his tenth year with the school.
“I love the fact that I have a real Science Lab,” Masem says. “We get to do hands-on experiments multiple times per week. Professionally I get to focus on the one subject area I love the most and put all my time and effort into making it the best experience for the children it can be.” The amazing staff at school and the parents of his students has made this an ideal working situation for him. “SEA is truly a family, and they’ve all been very supportive of me here.”
In his free time Mr. Masem enjoys branching out creatively and athletically. He’s written a song, a spring play, and puppet shows that have been performed by students at SEA. He runs afterschool Science Club and LEGO Robotics Club enrichments. He jogs for fun, doing numerous 5ks – half-marathon races in the community, and is the captain of an adult kickball team. Mr. Masem volunteers for the Longwood branch of the free clinic, Shepherd’s Hope.
