Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 8:51PM It was a GREAT day for young and "older" at SEA's Annual Grandparents Day! Grandparents attended Chapel, worked on a variety of activities with students in their classrooms and enjoyed a special luncheon in their honor. This is truly one of our most special days of the year at SEA. Thank you to all the wonderful Grandparents who joined us. We are already looking forward to next year! Visit our Grandparents Day Photo Album to see more images from this special day.
Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 8:50PM American Patriots refused to drink tea because of the conflict with Great Britain. Patriot women served all kinds of substitutes, such as tea brewed from birch twigs and leaves, or from dried berry leaves. Herb teas were popular too. These beverages were called "liberty tea." Some people even turned to coffee and mulled cider.
On Thursday, February 16th, fifth grade had a "liberty party" in the classroom. The students were instructed to create a non-violent protest against "taxation without representation." It was amazing to see the student present their skits, marches, rap songs, artwork, and posters while tasting "liberty tea, "scones, and tea cookies. What an exciting way to gain an understanding of a non-violent demonstration of a political protest. Check out our "taxation without representation" rap...

A long standing tradition at SEA, Fifth Graders and their families participated in SEA's Annual Presidential Dinner. Hosted by Social Studies Teacher and Assistant Head of School, Mrs. Delius, the evening provides an opportunity for students to showcase the research based learning they have been conducting on U.S. Presidents.
Students were required to research, draft, type and assemble a formal report on a President of their choosing. Complete with multiple pages of data, table of contents, introduction, conclusion and bibliography. During the President's Dinner, students displayed a show board, a miniature version of their President, provided a favorite food of their President for all of the attendees to share, and gave an oral presentation sharing several important facts to the audience. Visit our Photo Gallery for more images of the Fifth Grade Presidential Dinner.

In conjunction with their Presidential Report, Fifth Graders at SEA have just finished writing, illustrating and publishing an Historical Fiction story that is based on the President selected for their report. Students completed this project during a series of creative writing workshops, led by Writing Teacher Mrs. Wolfcale. Last week, students shared their stories with the school through a series of "Storytimes" in Pre-K through 3rd Grade. Congratualtions Fifth Graders on this terrific accomplishment!
